Gahkuch, June 30: A three day training workshop on “Natural Resource Management” was organized by Saving Wetlands Sky High (SWSH) Programme, WWF-Pakistan, at a local hotel here from 27-29 June 2011. The training workshop was aimed at enhancing understanding about natural resource management in general and organic agriculture and fisheries management in particular.
A total of 25 participants represented Shandoor Local Support Organization (SLSO), Proper Ishkoman Development Organization
(PIDO), Qurumbar Social Welfare Conservation and Development Organization (QSWCDO), Gupis Local Support Organization, Gupis Women Development Organization, Chitorkhand Local Support Organization, Gahkuch Local Support Organization, Singal Local Support Organization and line departments of district Ghizer.
Some of the facilitators at the training workshop were, Mr. Naseer Ahmed Coordinator, Mr. Farasat Ali conservation officer SWSH, Mr. Mustafa khan Deputy Director Agriculture department Gilgit-Baltistan , Mr. Ichiro, Japan international cooperative agency, Dr. Ezzat Ali Khan, Fisheries and Livestock Department Gilgit-Baltistan and Mr. Ali Asghar Warden Fisheries Department Gilgit-Baltistan.
Some of the themes discussed during the workshop were were Basic terminologies about natural resource management, Key natural resources, status, potential and challenges in Ghizer district, Agro-pastoralism; an integrated agricultural based mountain economy (opportunities, constrains and solution), Community based fish farming and sustainable livelihood options ,Organic agriculture and fish farming; mechanics, implications and benefits , Conflict dealing and management, Fish conservation and management, Hatchery system and fish farming and Climate change impacts on fisheries resources and agro-pastoral life.
At the end of the workshop Raja Alamgir Divisional Forest Officer Ghizer, as chief guest, awarded certificates to the training participants and Mr. Farasat Ali conservation officer SWSH thanked all participants.
