Gilgit – Baltistan braces for the Cricket World Cup Semi Final between Pakistan and India

People across Gilgit – Baltistan are flowing in the cricket current triggered by a crucial semi-final match between arch rivals, Pakistan and India. From social media sites, to the remotest villages, everyone is discussing the World Cup 2011 match that will be played at Mohali, Chandigarh (India), today.

Fans of the Pakistani team have bought green shirts to show solidarity with the national cricket team, while a graphics artist at http://www.mygilgit.com has “GBianized” Shahid Afridi and Abdul Razaq, by putting traditional GB hats on their head.

A 3200 member strong Facebook page, “Gilgit – Baltistan”, has developed

several posters to mark the Pakistani team playing in the World Cup 2011.

One of the posters (at left) shows an interesting combination of a jubilant Shahid Afridi, Pakistani skipper, standing in front  of a Markhor (symbolizing GB).

In short, the cricket craze has allowed several opportunities to display patriotism in GB.

The match is crucial because its result would decide the second finalist who willmeet Sri Lanka in the trophy decider. It is for the very first time in history of World Cup Cricket that both finalist teams will be Asians. With exception of Bangladesh, all three Asian teams made it to the semi finals.

The Government of Gilgit – Baltistan has announced a half-day leave in the region in view of the enthusiasm expressed by cricket lovers. The GB Water and Power Department has, reportedly, said that there would be no load-shedding during the match.

Thousands of people in GB would join the match in Mohali through Chinese Radio Transistors, cheaply available in the entire region. (Nurmomad)

Enchanting the insensible is like going more sick.Cricket sholud be taken as a game, never a as an emotional wave. The traditional filth of fielding and batting slams the national yet again.
